Raspberry Pi is a small-sized computer and it has HDMI, USB, GPIOs and serial interfaces such as I2C, UART and SPI. I think Raspberry Pi board can be used for IoT as a sensor device controller or small IoT server.
As fa as I know, many small company is making their own IoT device based on Raspberry pi because it is cheap, consumes low power, is small-size and easy to develop.
